What is the Hairdressing Council?

Set up in 1964 as an Act of Parliament, The Hairdressing Council enabled hairdressers to become State Registered much like the way in which nurses, doctors and dentists can, except with hairdressers it is completely voluntary.

With thousands of hairdressers supporting the need for more professionalism including such big names as Richard Ward, Trevor Sorbie, Andrew Barton, Anthony Mascolo, Steven Goldsworthy, Lisa Shepherd, Mark Hill, Errol Douglas, Patrick Cameron, the campaign aims to raise the standards and regulate the industry, thus protecting both customers and talented hairdressers from the rogue hairdressers practicing out there with no experience or qualifications whatsoever.

The Hairdressing Council aims to encourage all qualified hairdressers to become registered, to keep the industry regulated and eventually completely free from cowboys hairdressers.

All Consumers are always advised to use a State Registered Hairdresser when visiting a salon, as basically Britain is one of only a few countries left where anyone, without registration, without qualifications or even without any form of recognized training, is completely free to set up and practice as a hairdresser.
