Regis Teams up with Tesco

Let's face it, it was only a matter of time before the super store giants Tesco's entered the hair and beauty industry.

Teaming up with Regis, and operating under the name 'Your Beauty' Tesco's are jumping on board the hair and beauty train.

Regis, are not new to this kind of venture and already have a number of Hair Express outlets located within Asda's superstores.

The concession is being piloted in six stores, and assuming all goes well with these stores, at least 70 more stores are planned by 2012. With the emphasis on convenience and offering a fast turn around, clients can be styled either quickly before or after their shop or while their partner is going around the store.

Prices are reportedly set to be £20 for a wash, cut and blow dry; £15 for a wash and cut or £12.50 just for a cut, with a half leg wax £10 and full for £15. Predominantly a hair salon that also offers various beauty services, it will be on a walk in basis with no appointment system put in place.

With the Tesco's giant leading the way, department store John Lewis have announced plans to test their own in store beauty and spa concept, and other major supermarket chains are said looking into the concept now.

With Tesco's offering the hair and beauty services they still have to ask themselves whether shoppers would really want their hair styled in a supermarket environment.

My guess is there is room for everyone, Tesco will attract customers and Independent salons will have to compete to provide a better service.
